Dr. Gary Fettke, MD

Dr Gary Fettke is an Orthopaedic Surgeon practising in Tasmania, Australia. He is a vocal proponent of nutrition being a major component of prevention and management of modern disease. He continues to defend the right to free speech, the right to question traditional beliefs for the benefit of the community. He is a staunch advocate for reducing ultra-processed food in the diet, particularly carbohydrate and recommends a nutrient rich LCHF lifestyle - Low Carb Healthy Fat or Keto eating life.

In 2014, he became targeted by the processed food industry for his opinion on the perils of excessive sugar consumption, culminating in a ‘silencing’ by the Medical Board (AHPRA). 2018 saw a clearance of those charges with an apology from the board. In the process of that investigation, it became apparent that the issues were not just that of sugar reduction, but that of the recommendation of animal-based protein and healthy fats in a balanced diet.

He has a broad understanding of the vested interests shaping dietary and health guidelines, and particularly those around the anti-red meat agenda affecting the animal-based sector. His wife, Belinda Fettke, is a world leading expert on the surprising ‘players’ in that game.

He is active in social media across a variety of platforms. His YouTube talks have been seen several million times and he is the author of a philosophical look at life - ‘Inversion – One Man’s Answer for World Peace and Global Health’.

The Public Health narrative has become politicised, particularly in recent years around COVID management. It continues to shift, and any questioning of those ‘moving’ policies by individual health professionals, has meant threatening behaviour from health regulators at a local and international level. He continues to support the rights of free speech as ‘Science evolves by being challenged. Not by being followed.’”

017: DR. GARY FETTKE - HAVE WE been SCAMMED by the DIET PYRAMID? (ADVENTISTS & Medical Evangelism)

In this episode, I have a very wonderful and enlightening conversation with Dr. Gary Fettke, an orthopedic surgeon from Tasmania, Australia and one of the leading pioneers of the Low Carb Healthy Fats (LCHF) nutrition advocacy worldwide. We go down the rabbit’s hole of the anti-meat, pro-vegetarian, pro-vegan sentiment pushing the unhealthy agenda of the high carbohydrate dietary pyramid which has significantly caused the global diabetes and obesity pandemic, and which to the surprise of many is actually deeply rooted with the “prophetic” writings of Ellen G. White which led to the current dogma of the Seventh Day Adventist church.

Gary has a longstanding interest in preventive medicine and its overall health outcomes, especially in relation to his work as an orthopedic surgeon performing joint replacement surgery among overweight and obese arthritic patients as well as limb amputations for those with non-healing wounds and other diabetic foot complications. Gary was reported by dietitians working in cahoots with the sugar and food processing industry to the AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) and a closed-door investigation ensued about Gary’s qualifications to give nutritional advice for his diabetic patients. Gary was issued a ‘caution’ but was eventually exonerated and cleared of all charges.

"Carbohydrate: The Dose is the Poison!" - Dr. Gary Fettke

Dr. Gary Fettke is an Orthopaedic Surgeon practising in Launceston, Tasmania. Along with his wife Belinda, Gary opened the 'Nutrition for Life – Diabetes and Health Research Centre' based in Launceston which provides nutritional care around Tasmania and Australia.

Gary has a longstanding interest in the preventative aspects of health outcomes, particularly before operating on his patients. Recently an AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)  investigation into Gary’s qualifications to give nutritional advice has concluded. This investigation (which lasted for more than two years) has resulted in Gary being issued a ‘caution’.

The Medical Board of Tasmania, under the umbrella of the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Authority, have advised him; ”In particular, that he does not provide specific advice or recommendations on the subject of nutrition and how it relates to the management of diabetes or the treatment and/or prevention of cancer.” Gary was later cleared of all charges and issued a formal apology from AHPRA.

The Origins of the Anti-Meat Message with Dr. Gary Fettke

They tried to silence him simply for trying to help his patients eat better and improve their health. Fortunately they failed. Now Dr. Fettke, along with his wife Belinda, has made it his mission to uncover the truth behind the anti-meat establishment and much of what he has discovered is shocking. He continues to work as an orthopdeic surgeon, but he sees a better way to helping those who are obese or suffer from diabetes- LCHF. Or as he calls it, real food nutrition. He is outspoken, witty and a true low carb hero.

"The Role of Nutrition in Everything" - Dr. Gary Fettke

In this video, Australian orthopedic surgeon Dr. Gary Fettke outlines the junk science that shapes our nutrition guidelines.

Fettke’s presentation was part of CrossFit’s 2017 Health Conference, held Aug. 2 at the Monona Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin.

“I put my balls on the line today. … By continuing to speak out on the topic of nutrition, I am at risk of losing my registration as an orthopedic surgeon,” Fettke tells a crowd of more than 400.

Fettke recommends a “low-carb, healthy-fat” diet, which he says is in line with CrossFit’s recommendation to eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.

“I feel that the combination of fructose, refined carbohydrate and polyunsaturated oils is toxic, inflammatory and at the root cause of all disease that we look at,” he says.

But because of his dietary recommendations, Fettke has been reported to Australia’s medical board, much like Dr. Tim Noakes was attacked for challenging the establishment in South Africa. (Noakes also spoke at the Aug. 2 conference.)

“The board have determined that it is inappropriate for me to let people know how to reverse Type 2 diabetes,” Fettke explains. Nevertheless, he says, “The message is too important to be silenced.”

During his talk, which is equal parts biology lesson and food-industry history, Fettke speaks out against the ideological misinformation and vested interests that have corrupted how we eat.

“With the right education,” he says, “my patients can be helped. The system can also be helped, and so can the environment and the planet.”
